Congratulations to the Hillsboro High School Chess Team for winning the Royall Varsity Chess Tournament, beating both Royall and New Lisbon to take home the traveling Rook trophy!
Teams play intramural matches to rank players from 1 to 10. In the tournament, four games are played. Hillsboro's number 1 ranked player, Reed Urban, battled the 1st and 2nd ranked players from both opposing schools. Several Hillsboro players displayed exceptional skill, remaining undefeated throughout the tournament. These included Max Blaha (ranked 2nd), Ian Anderson (ranked 3rd), and Liz Cairns (ranked 8th). Additionally, wins from Dalton Nowak (4th), Dodge Shore (5th), Isaac Thyne (6th), Parker Skala (7th), Isaiah Stokes (9th), and Joseph Cairns (10th) all added up to Hillsboro's victory!
Way to go, Tigers!
