In early December, students from the Creative Writing Club attended the UW-Whitewater Creative Writing Festival for a day of inspiration and creativity. This event, which marks the 40th Annual Creative Writing Festival, brings together over 500 students from high schools across the region for a unique opportunity to engage with professional writers and fellow aspiring authors. Hosted at UW-Whitewater, the festival allows students to experience a college setting while exploring new writing genres.
Throughout the day, attendees participated in workshops covering poetry, science fiction, horror, mystery, and juvenile fiction, lead by published authors. Students had the chance to hear their work discussed and critiqued by professionals, gaining constructive feedback in a supportive environment. The keynote speaker, Nickolas Butler, internationally acclaimed for his best-selling novels Shotgun Lovesongs and The Hearts of Men, captivated the audience with an inspiring address.
The festival offered a platform for students to expand their writing skills while also providing a space for networking with peers and industry professionals. It was a day filled with creativity, collaboration, and celebration of the written word.
