Hillsboro High School's forensics team is celebrating yesterday's successful sub-district competition, with several students earning the right to compete at the district level in March. The sub-district tournament was hosted by Hillsboro Schools, welcoming students from across the region to showcase their talents in a variety of speaking and performance events.
Forensics, also known as speech and debate, has a long and rich history in education. Beyond improving public speaking skills, forensics fosters critical thinking, research, and argumentation abilities. Throughout the season, students learn to analyze complex issues, construct persuasive arguments, and present information effectively. These skills are invaluable not only in academic settings but also in future careers and civic life. But at its heart, forensics is also a deeply creative endeavor. Students are doing much more than just presenting information; they're crafting narratives, interpreting texts, and bringing characters to life.
This blend of analytical and artistic skills makes forensics a truly enriching experience for participating students. We wish our Tigers good luck as they advance to district competition in March.
