Chess

The Hillsboro High School Chess Team has again emerged victorious in the multi-school varsity chess tournament at Royall, marking our second consecutive win and the return of the coveted traveling rook trophy to our school. This incredible achievement is a testament to our talented players' hard work, dedication, and skill.

A special congratulations goes out to Max Blaha, our number 1 seeded player, whose strategic brilliance led the team to victory. We also want to recognize our seniors – Reed Urban, Isaac Thyne, and Joseph Cairns – for their outstanding performances throughout the tournament. Dalton Nowak deserves a huge shout-out for his crucial final match, which ultimately secured the win for Hillsboro.

Beyond the excitement of the win, playing chess offers a wealth of benefits for students. It sharpens critical thinking, enhances problem-solving skills, and encourages patience and perseverance. Chess also fosters strategic planning, teaches the importance of thinking ahead, and promotes focus and concentration. These skills translate far beyond the chessboard, benefiting students in all areas of life, including academics and future career pursuits.

We are incredibly proud of our chess team and look forward to more successes in the future. Keep up the amazing work, Tigers!
